# Read item file

> Reads binary content from a file attached to an item.

`onePassword.readItemFile` reads binary content from a file attached to an item.

This action requires a service-account connection.

## Example

```ts automations/onepassword-read-item-file.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation, onSchedule } from "automate.ax"
import { onePassword } from "automate.ax/onepassword"
export default automation("Read item file", () => {
  onSchedule({ schedule: "0 * * * *" })
  onePassword.readItemFile({
    vaultId: "vault-id",
    itemId: "item-id",
    file: { id: "file-id", name: "secret.pdf", size: 1024 },
  })
})
```

## Inputs

Provide the vault and item IDs plus file attributes returned by a decrypted item. Every input accepts a compatible signal. Account-backed actions accept an optional second argument `{ account }` to select a named binding.

## Output

Returns a `Uint8Array` containing the file. The output is sensitive.
