# Start session

> Starts a Claude agent session without waiting for a turn to finish.

`anthropic.startSession` starts a Claude agent session without waiting for a turn to finish.

## Example

## Inputs

Requires `agent` and `environmentId`. Optional fields include `initialEvents` (maximum 50), `budget`, `resources`, `vaultIds`, `title`, and metadata. Budgets use whole-cent USD strings. Inputs use public camelCase names and accept signals.

## Output and behavior

Returns the new session immediately. Use `runAgent` for durable first-turn completion.

Anthropic requests time out before the action lease and provider mutations are not retried after an uncertain response unless stated otherwise.
