# Update session

> Updates mutable session configuration for subsequent turns.

`anthropic.updateSession` updates mutable session configuration for subsequent turns.

## Example

## Inputs

Requires `sessionId`. You can patch title and metadata, replace tools or MCP servers, and update or remove an existing budget. A budget cannot be added if the session started without one. Inputs use public camelCase names and accept signals.

## Output and behavior

Returns the updated session.

Anthropic requests time out before the action lease and provider mutations are not retried after an uncertain response unless stated otherwise.
