# On Automate.ax action indeterminate

> Run an automation when an unsafe action has an ambiguous provider outcome.

`automate.onActionIndeterminate` uses the [action-attempt event payload](/reference/integrations/automate/triggers/on-action-attempt-event) with `attempt.status: "indeterminate"`, `action.status: "failed"`, and an `action_outcome_indeterminate` failure.

```ts automations/on-action-indeterminate.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { automate } from "automate.ax/automate"
export default automation("Action outcome unknown", () => {
  const event = automate.onActionIndeterminate({ automation: "auto_123" })
  // Escalate the indeterminate Automate.ax action.
})
```

`automation` accepts an imported automation descriptor, exact ID, or unique deployed description. When `account` is omitted, the trigger uses the deploying project's organization. An explicit static Automate.ax binding requires `project:read` and can watch another organization. Treat the provider effect as unknown; do not assume it failed or replay it automatically.
