# On GitHub branch created

> Start an automation when GitHub creates a branch.

`github.onBranchCreated` starts an automation when a repository branch is created.

import { github } from "automate.ax/github"

export default automation("GitHub branch created", () => {
  const event = github.onBranchCreated()
  github.createIssue({
    owner: event.repository.owner.login,
    repository: event.repository.name,
    title: t`Branch created: ${event.ref}`,
  })
})
```

Returns the typed `create` payload with `ref_type: "branch"`. GitHub does not deliver this event when more than three tags are created at once; branch creation is unaffected. Requires Contents read permission.
