# On GitHub issue opened

> Start an automation when a GitHub issue is opened.

`onGitHubIssueOpened` emits only GitHub issue deliveries whose action is `"opened"`.

```ts automations/welcome-github-issues.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import {
  createGitHubIssueComment,
  onGitHubIssueOpened,
} from "automate.ax/github"
export default automation("Welcome GitHub issues", () => {
  const event = onGitHubIssueOpened()
  createGitHubIssueComment({
    owner: event.repository.owner.login,
    repository: event.repository.name,
    issueNumber: event.issue.number,
    body: "Thanks for opening this issue.",
  })
})
```

Optional static `account` defaults to the project binding. Returns `Signal<GitHubIssueOpenedEvent>` with `action: "opened"` and the complete typed GitHub issue webhook payload. The installation needs Issues read permission and repository access.
