# On GitHub ref deleted

> Start an automation when GitHub deletes a branch or tag.

`github.onRefDeleted` starts an automation when a branch or tag is deleted.

  const event = github.onRefDeleted()

```

Returns GitHub's typed `delete` webhook payload. Use a semantic branch or tag trigger when only one ref type matters. Requires Contents read permission.
