# On GitHub status event

> Run for broad GitHub commit status changes.

`github.onStatusEvent` handles changes to commit-status contexts.

```ts automations/watch-github-status.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { github } from "automate.ax/github"

export default automation("Watch GitHub status", () => {
  const event = github.onStatusEvent()
  // Update the GitHub commit status in the CI dashboard.
})
```

Returns the status `state`, `context`, `sha`, description, target URL, affected branches, commit, repository, and sender. Check runs are a separate GitHub feature and do not emit this event. Requires Commit statuses read permission.
