# On GitHub tag created

> Start an automation when GitHub creates a tag.

`github.onTagCreated` starts an automation when a repository tag is created.

```ts automations/github-tag-created.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { github } from "automate.ax/github"

export default automation("GitHub tag created", () => {
  const event = github.onTagCreated()
  github.createRelease({
    owner: event.repository.owner.login,
    repository: event.repository.name,
    tagName: event.ref,
  })
})
```

Returns the typed `create` payload with `ref_type: "tag"`. GitHub does not deliver this event when more than three tags are created at once. Requires Contents read permission.
