# Mark as unread

> Return an Outlook message to the unread state.

`markAsUnread` sets `isRead` to false, returning processed mail to a person's
attention.

```ts automations/mark-outlook-unread.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { markAsUnread } from "automate.ax/outlook"

export default automation("Mark Outlook mail unread", () => {
  markAsUnread({ messageId: "AAMkAGI2..." })
})
```

Required `messageId` identifies the message; optional `account` selects the
Microsoft binding. Returns the updated `OutlookMessage` with `isRead: false`.
