# Send custom event

> Send a custom event to Resend for one contact.

`resend.sendCustomEvent({ event, contactId?, email?, payload? })` sends an event that can activate enabled Resend Automations. Provide exactly one of `contactId` or `email`. The optional JSON payload must satisfy the event's provider-defined schema or Resend rejects it with `422`.
