# Create public channel

> Create a public Slack channel.

`slack.createPublicChannel` creates a public channel.

## Example

```ts automations/create-public-channel.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation, onDashboardRun } from "automate.ax"
import { slack } from "automate.ax/slack"

export default automation("Create public channel", () => {
  onDashboardRun({ title: "Create public channel" })

  slack.createPublicChannel({ name: "release-status" })
})
```

## Inputs

`name` is required, may contain lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores, and may be at most 80 characters.

## Output

Returns the created Slack conversation. Requires the bot scope `channels:manage`.
