# Update message

> Update a message posted by the installed Slack bot.

`updateMessage` changes a bot-authored message. Slack does not let the bot edit
messages posted by other users or apps.

## Example

```ts automations/update-slack-message.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { updateMessage } from "automate.ax/slack"
export default automation("Update Slack status", () => {
  updateMessage({
    conversationId: "C01234567",
    timestamp: "1700000000.000001",
    text: "Deployment finished.",
  })
})
```

## Inputs

| Input                           | Type                                             | Required     | Description                                                 |
| ------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ | ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| `conversationId`                | `string`                                         | Yes          | Conversation containing the message.                        |
| `timestamp`                     | `string`                                         | Yes          | Timestamp identifying the message.                          |
| `text`, `blocks`, `attachments` | Slack message content                            | At least one | Replacement content; blocks max 50 and attachments max 100. |
| `unfurlLinks`, `unfurlMedia`    | `boolean`                                        | No           | Slack unfurl behavior.                                      |
| `account`                       | `string \| IntegrationAccountReference<"slack">` | No           | Slack binding; defaults to the project binding.             |

## Output

Returns the message's `conversationId`, `timestamp`, and normalized `message`.

Supplying `text` without `blocks` removes existing blocks. Pass an empty blocks
array when you intentionally want to clear blocks while retaining other content.
