# On file deleted

> Run an automation when a Slack file is deleted.

`slack.onFileDeleted` emits `file_deleted` events. Slack does not emit this event for files removed automatically by a workspace retention policy.

import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { slack } from "automate.ax/slack"

export default automation("Watch deleted Slack files", () => {
  const file = slack.onFileDeleted()
  // Use file.fileId to remove the deleted file from a Slack index.
})
```

The result includes `fileId`, the typed original `event`, and the complete `envelope`.
