# Add channel member

> Adds and returns a direct private or shared channel member.

`teams.addChannelMember` adds and returns a direct private or shared channel member.

## Example

```ts automations/teams-add-channel-member.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { teams } from "automate.ax/teams"
export default automation("Add channel member", () => {
  teams.addChannelMember({
    team: "Engineering",
    channel: "Private",
    userId: "user-id",
    roles: [],
  })
})
```

## Inputs

Pass `team` and `channel` as exact display names or provider IDs and provide the Microsoft Entra `userId`. `roles` defaults to an empty array for a regular member; use `["owner"]` for an owner. The optional second argument `{ account }` selects a Microsoft binding.

## Output

Adds and returns a direct private or shared channel member. Microsoft Graph IDs are opaque and should be passed through unchanged. Private and shared channel membership operations do not apply to standard channels.
