# Add chat member

> Adds and returns a chat member.

`teams.addChatMember` adds and returns a chat member.

## Example

```ts automations/teams-add-chat-member.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { teams } from "automate.ax/teams"

export default automation("Add chat member", () => {
  teams.addChatMember({ chatId: "chat-id", userId: "user-id", roles: [] })
})
```

## Inputs

Pass the opaque `chatId` and Microsoft Entra `userId`. `roles` defaults to an empty array for a regular member; use `["owner"]` for an owner. Optional `visibleHistoryStartAt` controls the earliest chat history visible to the new member. The optional second argument `{ account }` selects a Microsoft binding.

## Output

Adds and returns a chat member. Microsoft Graph IDs are opaque and should be passed through unchanged.
