# Add team member

> Adds and returns a direct team member.

`teams.addTeamMember` adds and returns a direct team member.

## Example

```ts automations/teams-add-team-member.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { teams } from "automate.ax/teams"

export default automation("Add team member", () => {
  teams.addTeamMember({ team: "Engineering", userId: "user-id", roles: [] })
})
```

## Inputs

Pass `team` as an exact display name or provider ID and provide the Microsoft Entra `userId`. `roles` defaults to an empty array for a regular member; use `["owner"]` for an owner. The optional second argument `{ account }` selects a Microsoft binding.

## Output

Adds and returns a direct team member. Microsoft Graph IDs are opaque and should be passed through unchanged.
