# Update team member

> Updates and returns a direct team member.

`teams.updateTeamMember` updates and returns a direct team member.

## Example

```ts automations/teams-update-team-member.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation } from "automate.ax"
import { teams } from "automate.ax/teams"

export default automation("Update team member", () => {
  teams.updateTeamMember({
    team: "Engineering",
    memberId: "member-id",
    roles: ["owner"],
  })
})
```

## Inputs

Pass `{ team: "Engineering", memberId: "member-id", roles: ["owner"] }`. The optional second argument `{ account }` selects a Microsoft binding.

## Output

Updates and returns a direct team member. Microsoft Graph IDs are opaque and should be passed through unchanged.
