# Create organization

> Creates an Uber Direct sub-organization for a merchant or location.

`uber.createOrganization` adds a sub-organization under your Uber Direct organization, for example one per merchant you deliver for.

```ts automations/onboard-uber-merchant.automation.ts theme={null}
import { automation, markSignificant, onDashboardRun } from "automate.ax"
import { uber } from "automate.ax/uber"
export default automation("Onboard a merchant", () => {
  onDashboardRun({ title: "Onboard merchant" })
  markSignificant(
    uber.createOrganization({
      name: "Corner Florist",
      billingType: "BILLING_TYPE_CENTRALIZED",
      merchantType: "MERCHANT_TYPE_FLOWER",
      pointOfContact: { email: "owner@cornerflorist.example" },
      sendOnboardingInvite: true,
    }),
  )
})
```

`name` (up to 150 characters, without `/`, `\`, `:`, `%`, `<`, `>`, or `=`) and `billingType` are required. Centralized billing charges your organization; decentralized billing charges the sub-organization and requires `address` with `street1`, `city`, `state`, `zipcode`, and a two-letter `countryIso2`.

`parentOrganizationId` defaults to the connected customer ID. Set `sendOnboardingInvite` to email the `pointOfContact` Uber's onboarding form. `merchantType` and `contractType` use Uber's enum values, such as `MERCHANT_TYPE_RESTAURANT` and `CONTRACT_TYPE_PARENT`.

Automate.ax does not retry this action after an uncertain failure because a retry could create a duplicate organization.
